Pelargonium peltatum flowers after rain

These August Pelargonium peltatum flowers promote the merits of raindrop cosmetics.

Due to overlapping of the petals on the plant in picture it is not obvious that each flower has five of them. The upper pair always have line markings along the veins running from the base to just over halfway to the margins. Where they stop there may be blotches of colour. Petal markings contribute to Pelargonium species identification but are variable and sometimes confusing.

The three lower petals are unmarked, broadening to their rounded tips, unlike the curvaceous notching on the tips of the upper petals.

Some sepals protrude from behind the corollas. They contrast against the petals, being small and green, angular and narrowly pointed.
