This whitebacked vulture is assessing the pros and cons of lunch at a kill in Mjejane. Already feeling safe at short distance from the destination, the information to be processed is still vitally important; inversely proportional to the distance from the quarry, also when it is already dead!
Access to the food and competition among diners are bigger decision-making issues than the food itself. Unfortunately, diner behaviour in these parts commonly ruins the ambience of what would have been a quiet meal in a zoo cage where the competition is ruled out.
But who wants to be kept in a cage? So, dealing with the competition and constant awareness are essentials in the bush when partaking of carcass leftovers covered in green fly garnish.
Still a decent meal prospect though, if one does not become a meal during proceedings oneself!
