Gossypium herbaceum subsp. africanum presents a variety of stem colours, even upon a limited piece of its youngish growth. There are reds, greens, browns, greys and more with fissuring and dots added to emphasise the artistic prowess of nature that never slips up on detail. Sparse white leaf hairiness is more evident on the lower surface of an old leaf here than on the upper surfaces
Even the leaf petioles present different appearances, like ladies refusing to parade in too similar dresses (Pooley, 1998; Onderstall, 1996; Letty, 1962; iSpot; Mannheimer and Curtis, (Eds), 2009; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000).
