This well-flowering Dilatris pillansii plant growing next to a path of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve was photographed late in October.
The rhizomes have multiplied below the mature, spreading clump, ready to make leaves and flowers re-appear vigorously after a veld fire. Rocky ground on a sandstone slope suits just fine for it to flower prodigiously, presenting a warm welcome to visitors from the town of Hermanus in the distance.
Everyone ready for a walk is invited; the promise includes both panoramic vistas and many kinds of plants at close range. Some will be in flower next to the well maintained paths.
There are more photos and information about this plant in the Herbs Album under Types on this Site (Bean and Johns, 2005).
