Anacampseros namaquensis

This branched Anacampseros namaquensis plant was seen in the Hester Malan Succulent Garden situated inside the Goegap Nature Reserve.

A variety of well-preserved succulent plants are on view in this rockery and garden, worth a visit. The garden was established in 1960, the Reserve added later. Goegap means waterhole in Khoikhoi.

A. namaquensis, previously A. filamentosa subsp. namaquensis is a small hairy plant commonly known in Afrikaans as hasiekos (little hare food).

The leaves are tightly stacked in the cylindrical to globose branches. The leaf-shape is ovoid to nearly spherical with rounded tips and slightly ridged margins. Cobwebby hairs cover the dark green leaf surfaces (Frandsen, 2017; www.sa-venues.com).
