Euphorbia hamata male cyathia

The flowers of a male Euphorbia hamata bush produce pollen from the clusters of stamens encircled by bracts similar to those found around the fruits of the female plant. Some flowers have four red bracts here, others only three.

A solitary erect leaf can be seen growing on a tubercle tip. The tubercle is red and green like the green leaf with red on its folded-in margins.

The stems of the plant grow to similar length, enhancing the effects of the stem-tip flowering on the rounded shrub (Frandsen, 2017; Smith and Crouch, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://llifle.com).
