Kewa salsoloides, previously Hypertelis salsoloides, is a favourite among browsing animals. It has common names including haassuring (hare sorrel), skaapsuring (sheep sorrel) and volstruisbrak (ostrich brackish) that indicate some of the consumers of the sour to salty tasting leaves.
The plant grows in sandy or loamy soils among many vegetation types, often forming stands in disturbed sites (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iNaturalist).
