In this forest one is usually in shade during the middle of a sunny day only when deliberately seeking it, moving into it under one of the scattering of trees. The trees here are well spaced, mostly widely spaced.
Parts of the slopes carry more trees, given the soil, shelter and moisture conditions. Even here, their most favoured natural habitat of the past, quiver tree living conditions are deteriorating.
Quiver trees are not planted for their shade. Beauty and rarity count among the reasons why they would be planted, but beware the difficulty of matching the conditions under which they grow.
