Distance adds perspective. Close-up it’s all finger-like, leafy and greenish. In the middle ground it’s rough fluff on stalks, dull grey or maybe a bit brown. Over there on the horizon, the tiny blobs must have stems although unseen, colourings only to be speculated about directly, well guessed from what is nearby.

It’s a hard walk from one end of the quiver tree forest to the other. Temperature extremes can be a real issue here, requiring suitable provisions in clothes, footwear and drinks.

Although quite bare and easy to negotiate, the hillside hike through a real though sparse, natural forest with large bare patches of stony earth is memorable. There are sights and surprises of interest to many mindsets and a wide age range of participants. Consider well before taking those that want to be carried after the first slope.

The notable feature on the day of these photographs was the rejuvenation beyond enjoyment it brought to all concerned, proportional to the ages of participants.
