Aloe globuligemma is one of the highlights of the Steelpoort veld where the De Hoop Dam was built to provide water to the growing mining ventures and to all in the area.

It is tempting to gardeners to position this plant in shade in the garden as so many of them are found in the veld under the thorn and other trees. One forgets that they receive a good deal of partial sun in this type of bushveld and then wonders why the plants refuse to flower in full garden shade.

Ernst van Jaarsveld mentioned somewhere in a newspaper article on A. globuligemma that this is the only South African Aloe that is poisonous. So, be careful!
