Terminalia prunioides

The purple-pod cluster-leaf or sterkbos is but one of many trees adorning the slopes around the hills around the De Hoop Dam. In autumn and winter these brightly coloured seed wings or samaras, each with a hard nut at the centre, can be seen over the rounded forms of the quite tangled masses of drooping branches.

Terminalia prunioides flowers, cream or white, start off with red buds (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt et al, 2002).
