Metarungia longistrobus has erect, hooded, nectar-bearing flowers that are two-lipped with green, triangular bracts below each corolla. The short spike of the inflorescence presents the corollas in a shape not often seen in South African flowers. The anthers and stigma are borne under the hood of the erect upper lip.
