Albuca fragrans is a perennial geophyte sometimes reaching 50 cm in height. It grows leaves, roots and a flower scape annually from the globose bulb that is about 5 cm in diameter. It used to be called Ornithogalum fragrans.

The two to four channelled leaves are green, hairless, soft and fleshy. The narrow blades are long, broader at the base where they clasp the stem.

The species distribution is in the west of the Western Cape from the Cape Peninsula northwards to Citrusdal and eastwards to Caledon and Gansbaai.

The habitat is fynbos and coastal scrub on slopes and flats in sandy soil. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; iSpot; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
