Albuca fragrans is a perennial geophyte of variable size and sturdiness. It grows leaves, roots and a flower scape annually from the globose bulb that is about 5 cm in diameter. It used to be called Ornithogalum fragrans.
The channelled leaves, two to four of them, are green, hairless, soft and fleshy. They are long and narrow, but broader where they clasp the stem at the base.
The species distribution is in the southwestern Cape, from Citrusdal to Gansbaai.
The habitat of is sandy soil on slopes and flats. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century, although the plant’s population in nature is decreasing due to farming, human population growth and related development in the distribution area (Manning, 2007; iSpot; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
