The Arctotis acaulis ray florets shown here are white on the inside and purple outside; the curving in of the margins near their tips reveal this fact. Their yellow bases end spiking into the white parts. The black disk has dull brown open florets in the outer rings only.
The pensive pollinator enjoys the sunshine for a moment, amidst its more intentional occupation of feeding, while unintentionally soiling itself in pollen before flying off to the next flower (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
