The inflorescences of Aloiampelos striatula var. striatula grow from leaf axils near stem tips. They are unbranched racemes, conical in shape and up to 40 cm in length. The flower perianths are densely positioned in the raceme, short and sometimes greenish in young buds, long and pendulous by the time they open with orange-yellow colour. The blooming season is late spring to midsummer. These flowers were seen in November.

A second subspecies is recognised: A. striatula var. caesia grows more towards the northern parts of the distribution of the species. Its leaves are more compactly together with shorter internodes and its flowers are shorter, straighter and yellow (Van Wyk and Smith, 2003).
