Aspalathus pedunculata is a single-stemmed shrub, sprawling or erect to heights between 1 m and 2 m.

The Western Cape distribution of the species is limited to the south of the Little Karoo. The plants grow on the Rooiberg, the Gamkaberg and the Outeniqua Mountains between the Robinson Pass and the Outeniqua Pass.

The habitat is mountainous fynbos transitioning into semi-karoid renosterveld where the soil is gravelly clay, the plants often seen on disturbed land or after fire. The species is rare in its habitat early in the twenty first century, although its population is deemed stable (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
