This stem-tip flowerhead of Aspalathus aspalathoides seen from the top is presenting its open flowers in a ring, the ones in the centre still to open.
Apart from the yellow pea-flower type corollas, there is much hairiness. Long white hairs grow mainly upon the margins of the trifoliolate leaves and sepals. Leaflets of this plant are sometimes less hairy, while the keel petals also have some hairs.
The standard petals are erect, a longitudinal central fold present and some curved back slightly. The wing petals point outwards in front of the standard and curve inwards in shallow bowl-shapes around the keel, just visible between them (Manning, 2007).
