The old Athanasia pubescens flowerheads turning into fruits are losing their earlier tight cohesion of florets as they dry.
Brown at their tips which were yellow at anthesis, the floret tube bases are still white. Belated protruding styles, ending in paired stigma branches, yellowish and recurving, protrude from some of the perianths.
Seen from the top, there is no longer any sign of the tips of involucral bracts that curved in around the florets in bud (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
