Usually stemless, here is an Aloe suprafoliata plant that invested in a stem but seems somewhat shy of it. The conveniently positioned rock supports may have added to this plant’s achievement, and also contribute to the coverup. Stems of this Aloe do not retain dead leaves.
If a plant’s inflorescence can exceed the leaf rosette by 1 m, a stemmed specimen may be well taller than 1 m when flowering, the typical species height. But such stems are rare. And some recline (Van Wyk and Smith, 2003; Pooley, 1998; Reynolds, 1974; Jeppe, 1969; iNaturalist).
