Arctotheca calendula colonising a lawn

Lawns in the Cape that become seeded by Arctotheca calendula may flower like this in winter and spring, in spite of regular mowing. Maybe it happens because of the mowing: damaged or struggling plants often rush into blooming earlier, to reproduce quickly when life is likely to be shorter.

Gardeners have a choice of removing invading plants that dont fit for their lawns to look neat. Alternatively they may be left to flower, embracing the colourful diversity above stern precision.

Going with the flow in life, versus maintaining unidimensional order are choices that reinforce natural tendencies of personality and temperament, or avoided in seeking balance. Every garden, house and work station earns a scale-point best describing the individuals nature or choice between extreme opposites.
