Abutilon austro-africanum flower

The yellow flowers of Abutilon austro-africanum grow solitary from leaf axils on the main branches. The pedicel or flower stalk is slender and cylindrical, jointed near the flower. It becomes 2,5 cm to 5 cm long.

The five round-tipped petals spread in a cone-shaped bowl around the staminal column of this open flower. The petal margins are hairy near their narrow bases, sometimes having reddish spots or vein markings low down.

The staminal column is short and cone-shaped, sometimes with a sparse covering of star-tipped hairs (iSpot; JSTOR; www.kyffhauser.co.za).
