The green, spherical fruits of Asparagus multiflorus are starting to acquire purplish colouring on the plant in picture. This is appearing in skin spots or mottling, as well as a general suffusion of new colour. Fruit diameter is about 6 mm.
The fruits grow on longish stalks that appear jointed, as flowers or fruits that have dropped off earlier left uniformly short ones (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
