The kleinplakkie (small slab) or eendjie (duckling) as Adromischus sphenophyllus is commonly known in Afrikaans in its Eastern Cape and Karoo distribution area, flowers in spring and summer. This plant was photographed in the Rooiberg in May, unfortunately not flowering. The leaves here show a fine velvety covering.

The flowers of A. sphenophyllus appear in spikes, widely spaced or densely together. They have green flower tubes and short calices. The five corolla lobes form a small star-shaped flower with a white centre and pink towards the tips. These lobes are keeled and pink, often recurving (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008).
