Cyphia volubilis petal dots

The white, long-petalled flowers of this Cyphia volubilis plant bear basal patches consisting of only tiny, scattered dark dots, the markings on the flowers of these plants quite variable. On this one the markings occur on all five lobes, in the centre of each lobe base. The dotted areas are slightly sunken in the limb surfaces.

Adjacent lobes of both lips are joined in roughly the bottom third of lip length. The flowers are from 1 cm to 2,5 cm long. These flowers are presented on wiry stem parts wound around any convenient support structures, here without any leaves in sight (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
