The Cussonia paniculata subsp. sinuata leaflet margins may be more lobed or wavy in their upper parts than below. The lobes may also be shaped pointing forward and lobe tips distinctly pointed rather than tending to be rounded as is common. The least developed of the about a dozen leaflets may show little deviation from straight, entire margins.

Slight leaflet margin serration or only in the upper leaflet parts does occur sometimes in the southerly distributed subspecies, viz. subsp. paniculata. Maybe this plant is a little unsure of its affiliation as far as subspecies is concerned (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
