The succulent leaves of Crassothonna alba are thin and terete (cylindrical) with blunt tips. They are smooth and hairless, dull glaucous (blue-green) in colour.

The generic name, Crassothonna, is derived from the Latin word crassus meaning thick or dense and the Greek word othone meaning sheet, linen or cloth, probably referring to the soft-textured leaves of some species in this genus as well as in Othonna.

Some of the plants seem to have thicker leaf cylinders than seen here. Leaf dimensions are given as 4 cm long by 5 mm in diameter (Compositae Newsletter, 50, 2012; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Andrew, 2017).
