Chaenostoma revolutum flowers

The rounded margins of the five petal lobes of Chaenostoma revolutum flowers are clear to see in this photo taken near Oudtshoorn. The flower tube varies in length from 5 mm to 13 mm; the corolla diameter varies between 10 mm and 15 mm. The white stigma protrudes with the stamens. The flowers grow in racemes from leaf axils. Blooming happens almost throughout the year whenever it has rained.

The narrow leaves, pale green and covered in gland-tipped hairs, are variable in length. Their rolled under margins are visible. Leaves may reach 2,5 cm in length. Similar hairiness as on the leaves is present upon the visible stem internodes (Manning, 2007; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
