    When the blond Cheiridopsis denticulata flower withers to brunette, comb and brush are no longer in use. Medusa was probably also lax in this habit; in her case not old age related.

    The sepals under the dark petals turned into hair curl as they lose their succulence. In the centre stamen and style shrivel as the ovary below takes over proceedings (Smith, et al, 2017; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
