Colchicum scabromarginatum inflorescence

The flowers of Colchicum scabromarginatum are clustered in a short, head-like raceme among bracts between the two leaves.

A full complement of six brown-edged, flat-headed anthers normally surround the slender, three-branched styles of the flowers competing for space in the inflorescence. There are four flowers in the inflorescence in picture.

Outside each stamen is an incurving narrow tepal. Its yellow-green veins are visible, longitudinally striped along their small blades. Nectar glands are positioned on the stamens below the anthers.

Flowers are seen late in winter and early in spring (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
