    A Cotula microglossa flowerhead grows on a long peduncle. In picture it is dark red-purple and sparsely covered in long, soft, silvery hairs. On some plants these stalks may be green, about hairless and inflated below the head. The hairs may also be differently coloured.

    The outer, fertile florets in picture are open, the central ones still rounded buds in the sunken part where the curved rows of florets converge as if sinking in a vortex (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
