The pale, grey-green leaves of the evergreen Cotula sericea are two or three times divided into small, pointed, erect lobes on thick spreading stalks that clasp the stem. The leaves are densely covered in fine, soft hairs giving the plant a silky texture.
The specific name, sericea, is derived from the Latin word sericum meaning silk, referring to this feature (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
