The small flowers of Cliffortia atrata grow solitary at stem-tips on short or no pedicels and without petals.

The male and female flowers are separate, the rounded petal-like calyx lobes of male flowers around clusters of stamens. The female flowers have ribbed calyx tubes and exserted, strap-shaped to feathery styles.

The flowers appear from midwinter to early summer (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot).
