Combretum erythrophyllum leaves

Combretum erythrophyllum is deciduous, but densely leafy in the warm season. The leaves grow on small lateral branchlets. They are nearly opposite, referred to as sub-opposite, although the arrangement sometimes becomes truly alternate.

The leaves are nearly hairless with indented net-veining on the upper surfaces and glossy. Leaf shape is oblong-elliptic, the apex tapers, the base is rounded and the margins are entire. The leaf colour is yellowish green when young, becoming pale green later and spectacularly red or purple in autumn (Schmidt, et al, 2002; Coates Palgrave, 2002).
