Combretum kraussii fruit

Combretum kraussii fruit, the four-winged samaras characterising (most members of) the genus, are here pale yellow to cream on the wings. Tinged purplish red towards their tips, the centres where the seeds reside are pale brown. Straight ridges run across the wings of the samaras.

C. kraussii fruit usually dry to a reddish brown. They become about 2 cm in diameter, seen hanging from stalks of about 4 mm from late summer to early winter (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
