Crassula vaillantii, previously Bulliarda vaillantii, is a small and delicate annual reaching heights from 3 cm to 15 cm, often to the shorter side of the range. Some, including SANBI, consider the plant to be a European exotic.

The species distribution is widespread in the Northern, Western and Eastern Cape, the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and southern Gauteng. It also grows in southern Europe, some Mediterranean islands, north Africa and elsewhere in southern Africa beyond the South African borders. The photo was taken near the western end of the Biedouw Valley.

The habitat is seasonally moist, open places, the plants likely to be seen in full sun around the muddy fringes of seasonal pools (Smith, et al, 2017; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://savvastryfonosplants.com; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
