Tiny yellow flowers appear in profusion on the upper stem parts of Crassula muscosa during spring and summer. The flowers measure no more than 2 mm in diameter. They are star-shaped and grow in leaf axils. In picture many small side-branchlets appear like flowers.

The plant is associated with much variability: four varieties are recognised, some of them growing side by side in the same areas (like in the Little Karoo).

The general plant appearance of C. muscosa has been likened to coral growing in the sea. The species name of muscosa means moss-like (Smith, et al, 1997; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; www.smgrowers.com).
