Crassula muscosa var. muscosa flowers

The flowers of Crassula muscosa var. muscosa are tiny. They grow stalkless or nearly so on the upper parts of the stems.

The pointed petal tips of the flowers are maroon. They may also be yellow. The lower part of each petal broadens to the base to form the cup-shaped corolla with the other four petals. Lower petal parts are translucently creamy green or pale yellow in colour.

On the plant in picture the petals curve inwards, forming the cup, then spread above it and curve inwards again near the tips. On some other specimens the petal tips just spread straight in ascending fashion.

The five stamens are about as tall as the petals, presenting their anthers above the stigma in the centre. The flowers may smell like something out of the Stapelia genus; not sweet at all.

Flowering is usually associated with spring and summer. This plant was photographed late in winter, while some flowering throughout autumn is also known (iSpot).
