Crassula fascicularis sees the sea

Still a joy to see the sea for the first time, even if one has to wait until fully grown! For the Crassula fascicularis plant rooted behind this Fernkloof rock, this is a feat only possible in years after fire. When the tall fynbos is burnt, the view is cleared for the early movers and shakers among the new growth to live their moment.

Note the narrow to lance-shaped leaves, fleshy with flat to concave upper surfaces, rounded below and usually hairy along their margins. The leaves are spreading, green and healthy on the short new growth, yellow and ascending close to the erect flower stems, exhausted from their flower supporting efforts (Manning, 2007; www.plantzafrica.com).
