Much red colouring may be seen on Crassula cultrata leaves in summer, especially in drought. Oudtshoorn had a dry summer by the time this plant was photographed in April. Still the stems are erect and resolute, the leaves ascending as if beseeching the heavens for rain.
The decussate leaf-pairs touch at the base around the stems, spaced lower down, crowded near the stem-tips (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
