Crassula rupestris toughing it out

At stem-tips the Crassula rupestris leaves are clustered densely in their decussate arrangement, while spaces emerge between leaf pairs down the stems.

No two of the leaves in picture look quite the same, although they start off in pairs opposite each other. Irregular marginal bands of pale brown colouring with uneven mottling and a suggestion of translucence surround the greenish white central leaf parts present on both surfaces. The tapering margins resulting in acutely pointed tips with individualistic twists, surround a flattish to concave upper surface; the lower surface bulges convexly or forms a boat-shaped keel.

This little plant may have been perched in this interesting life space for many years, judging from the appearance of its woody stem. For some, this makes for a good life, inspired for years while hanging from a rock with the sun in your face and an unimpaired view of neighbourhood events.
