Conophytum auriflorum subsp. auriflorum

The yellow flowers of Conophytum auriflorum subsp. auriflorum are seen here with their oblong petals arching outwards in salver-shape. The golden yellow flower colour has brought about the specific name of auriflorum, golden flower. The petals have irregularly notched tips.

The stamens bring their yellow anthers within visible range, but do not protrude above the corolla. There are nectar glands around the multiple stigmas.

The fleshy sepals form a narrow white tube around the long petals that present the top of the stalkless flower well above the leaves (Smith, et al, 1998; iSpot).
