    Two clumped plants of Conophytum velutinum subsp. velutinum are captured in this photo. They were seen some distance to the west of Springbok in the Kommaggas area during April. Pink-purplish flowers are present in the normal autumn blooming season.

    On the smaller clump the leaf-pairs have just spread laterally in a flat structure. When the plant gets older and bigger, the central leaves become elevated on longer stalks, the lateral ones pointing outwards, resulting in a dome-shape of fairly even regularity (Smith, et al, 1998).
