The Othonna macrophylla leaves in picture are atypical in colour. The purple colouring accrued in patches away from the veining is caused by the unusual growing conditions of germinated in a crevice in much shade. The veining pattern dominated by white midribs and the meandering of main lateral veins is accentuated.

The leaf outline, the toothed perimeter as well as the typical veining on the blades are unchanged, allow for recognising the plant. The pattern is similar on upper and lower surfaces.

Small, beginning leaves have more accentuated marginal toothing (iNaturalist; JSTOR).
