The leaves of Othonna lepidocaulis grow at stem-tips, dropping off in the dry summer season with the old flowers. This leaves the stems bare below the newly extended stem part bearing the latest deciduous leaves.

The leaves are blue-green in colour, succulent in texture and oblanceolate in shape. Oblanceolate means lance-shaped with the broadest leaf part near its tip. The leaf margins are entire; they may be undulating, but the plant in picture only has some margins turned up and some leaf-tips curving in (www.exotic-plants.de).
