The inversely bell-shaped, brown corolla of Orbea umbracula appears like a body prepared for flight, a bit like a shuttlecock that won’t make it in badminton. The big, pointed corolla lobes are glossy lower down, their surfaces more wrinkled than undulating. Some of the hairs on the lobe margins appear glandular. The flower is about 5 cm in diameter in the lobes part, the annulus well narrower.

Up top, the inner corona lobe tips droop fountain-like. They are pale yellow and maroon-spotted. The outer corona, also lobed, spreads below them above the annulus (iNaturalist; http://www.llifle.com; https://worldofsucculents.com).
