This Osteospermum monstrosum plant bears flowerheads with faint markings on the bases of its ray florets; a compromise between unmarked and dark-marked rays. The darkest markings are brown-purple to dark red.
A few disc florets are nectar-laden in the open flowerhead in picture. The gland-tipped hairs on the peduncles are dark.
The young bud in the centre points up like the open flowerhead. Its long, narrow involucral bracts are paler than those on the newly nodding fruit involucre, where the glandular hairs are whitish (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007).
