Osteospermum monstrosum grows branched clusters of daisy flowerheads. The single whorl of yellow ray florets of each flowerhead often has short, brown-purple patches inside the base. The rays are not much longer than the involucral bracts on the outside of the head. Osteospermum rays are female, the disc florets male. O. monstrosum flowerheads become about 1 cm in diameter.

The many small disc florets are dark purple or yellow, depending on the flowering stage.

Flowering happens from midwinter to early spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
