Nemesia barbata beards and buds

The bearded zones on these Nemesia barbata flowers are not so white, and not neat at all. The colour of the outside surfaces of the four lobes of the upper corolla lips is here revealed: a dull reddish purple, white-framed by overflow of the colour on the inside. The five diverging sepals of each flower are grey and hairy, slightly longitudinally lined, with some green near their rounded tips.

The raceme-shaped cluster of young buds still to develop in the inflorescence is dense, at this stage still short-stalked unlike the open flowers. The leaf-like bracts behind the flowers are green, less hairy, and the occasional marginal tooth visible on the mature ones (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
