Nemesia fruticans leaves and sepals

The opposite leaves of Nemesia fruticans are sessile (stalkless). Leaf shape is lanceolate, long and narrow, tapering to an acutely pointed tip. The margins are sometimes toothed, but not always, the midrib sunken on the upper surface. Leaf colour is dark green, the margins slightly rolled under.

The small, narrow sepals at the back of the corolla are visible in the photo. They only appear long on the buds as the corollas have so much growing still to do here. Buds start off from tiny beginnings, corollas fully enveloped protectively by the calyx at first (Manning, 2009; iSpot).
