The small, crowded Metalasia densa flowerheads that make up the flat-topped stem-tip inflorescences may also have brown involucral bracts in several rows around the florets, instead of the often-seen white ones. The bract tips are acutely pointed.
Each head is only about 2 mm in diameter, containing three to five disc florets (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Manning 2007; iNaturalist).
